What a fantastic evening we had for the official opening of our Children's Agility Trail 🥳 We would like to say a huge thank you to all the children, parents and grandparents who came out to join us, great fun was had by all 😁
We would like to say a special thank you to Barry Lynch from Meath County Council who official opened our play area and also to our local representatives Sean Drew and Sarah Reilly who also kindly joined us this evening.
This is a wonderful facility for children under the age of 12 in our community. We look forward to seeing the children getting great use out of the play area 😍
The Development of the Deerpark site began with initial discussions with Meath Co. Council to agree the leasing of the property back to our community. Identified  as the only feasible option for our community to develop the amenities that were so badly needed we undertook a lengthy process of negotiation and finalising the details of the lease agreement. These negotiations took place in conjunction with St. Michaels who were also looking to lease some land for development of much needed pitches for their growing club.

The outcome was that the 40 Acre site of the Deerpark lands was leased back to the community through both CKCD & St Michaels. The two groups came together to run the joint fundraiser Carlanstown / Kilbeg Does Strictly in 2014 & Carlanstown Kilbeg Does Lip Sync in 2017 to raise funding.

CKCD are working continuously through the New to You Community Thrift Shop and other fundraising initiatives to raise matching funding for grant aid to develop the Deerpark Lands. Grant aid is available from a variety of sources, some of which can give as much as 75% of the cost of a capital project. The remaining funds (25% or more) must be available from the group. In addition, projects need to be complete before grant aid is delivered, so it is vital that the group can show a capacity to raise money on an ongoing basis to secure funding from state agencies. New to You has been instrumental in allowing our community to show its capacity to raise funds and undertake large scale projects.

In 2016 members of both CKCD & St. Michaels came together to form a joint committee to co-ordinate the development of the site.

In May 2017 works began on the project with the perimeter walkway being constructed.

CKCD together with St Michaels GFC were delighted to welcome our local representatives and members of Meath Co Council to the Deerpark in 2017 to view the start of works on the perimeter walkway and new training pitch.  Once again CKCD, St Michaels GFC and the members of the joint Deerpark Development team want to extend their sincere thanks to our local elected representatives and Meath Council for their continued support.

Pictured above left to right are: Meath Co Council Senior Executive officer with the community section Fiona Fallon, Bernie Coghlan, Councillor Seamus Gallagher, Chairperson of CKCD Margaret Grey, Tommy Gaffney, Yvonne Duffy, Paul Curran, Phillip Moran, Director of services with Meath Co Council Barry Lynch, Representing Helen McEntee - Allison Finnegan, Eoin Smith, Pascal Reilly, Paddy Curran, Councillor Sean Drew, Chairperson of St Michaels GFC Gerry Kealy and Ronan Keating. Missing from our photo are Bernard McPhillips and Councillor Eugene Cassidy who missed the photo shoot by minutes but joined us all for a site walk.
CKCD CLG collaborated with St. Michaels GFC to launch two major fundraisers for the Deerpark Development. Carlanstown Kilbeg Does Strictly in 2014 & Carlanstown Kilbeg Does Lip Sync in 2017.  The events raised a massive €85,000 & €87,000 respectively. These funds went directly towards the development of The Deerpark.

Our sincere thanks to all who supported both events. To all the corporate sponsors of our participants, the amazing support from our entire community, the committee who organised the event and most of all to all the participants who gave their time and worked so hard to raise this money.
